During a fundraising dinner for a group focused on the environment, a retired Navy vice admiral says the environmental issue could lead to national security threats. The threats to life on Earth because of climate change aren’t limited to polar bears without ice to stand on and disappearing Amazon jungles, retired U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Lee F. Gunn said.
While both of those things might seem like they are far removed from Pennsylvania, Gunn warned Wednesday that they are a lot closer than some might think.
“Oil is shipped to us by people who don’t like us very much,” Gunn said. “If you look at the top 10 oil producing countries we get oil from, only two have governments that we’d approve of. And if we don’t have Iraq, there’s only one.”
