PAST EVENT: ASP to Join National Security Groups, Veterans at G-20 Summit to Address the National Security Threat of Climate Change
PITTSBURGH, PA – American Security Project (ASP) Senior Fellow Dr. Bernard Finel will join Operation Free, VoteVets.org and the Truman National Security Project in a press conference at the G-20 Summit to address the national security implications of climate change. As climate change intensifies, weather patterns will change, creating drought in some areas and rising sea levels in others. Participants will discuss how these changes will lead to greater resource scarcity, humanitarian crisis and armed conflict – all of which will intensify pressure on U.S. forces abroad and domestically.
Dr. Finel is an expert on national security policy, counterterrorism and defense strategy. Prior to joining ASP, he was a professor of military strategy and operations at the U.S. National War College, and he served as Executive Director of the Security Studies Program and Center for Peace and Security Studies at Georgetown University. He recently co-authored an ASP report detailing the impact of climate change on national security, which can be read here: http://www.secureamericanfuture.org/resources.php.
