Fusion News: Energy Business Review – MHI to manufacture additional two TF coils For ITER project

The Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) is giving a contract to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) to produce two toroidal field (TF) coils for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), as reported by Energy Business Review in the article “MHI to manufacture additional two TF coils For ITER project“.

The reactor is scheduled to be incorporated with a total of 19 TF coils, including one in reserve, nine of which will be supplied by Japan.The designated domestic agency (DA) for Japan in the ITER project, JAEA had already ordered one TF coil from MHI in 2012.As a partner in the production of Japan’s TF coils, MHI provide the plates for insertion of superconductors and the containers to hold the actual coilsProduction of the TF coil ordered last year has already started, with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation as in charge of manufacture of the coil winding packs.
