The smart grid is the ultimate game changer: changing the sector from a system of distinct consumers and producers to something much more dynamic, where traditional consumers will produce and consume electricity, and respond to pricing signals to get the best deal. For example, a household could sell electricity stored in its electric car at peak times, and charge the battery at night when prices are lower. Communities with a wind turbine could decide when to sell their electricity and when to use it themselves, transferring power over energy to the people, and making the grid much more “green”.
