Fusion News: MIT News- MIT fusion experiment energized by new budget deal
The 2014 U.S. budget, provides the first funding in more than a year for the research operations of MIT’s national fusion project, Alcator C-Mod. The new funding will support experimental research for at least 12 weeks and ensure cutting-edge research that will benefit operations at ITER. As reported by the MIT News in the article “MIT fusion experiment energized by the new budget deal:”
“It is essential that we continue to offer a stable fusion program at MIT for graduate students,” Porkolab says. “MIT has been at the forefront of graduate education in plasma physics and fusion science and engineering since the 1960s. We have a very strong and unique technical program based on upgrades to C-Mod that would ensure cutting-edge research for the next three to five years, as recommended by FESAC.”
