The End of the New ICBM
Back in January, I wrote about an event I attended hosted by the Stimson Center, Benefit or Burden? The Future of U.S. Tactical Nuclear Weapons. During this event, Former Air Force Chief of Staff, General Norton Schwartz, along with former Ambassador to Germany and Ronald Reagan’s START negotiator, Richard Burt, discussed the logic for the military and diplomatic utility of these weapons. Another issue discussed was the financial implications of the modernization of the nuclear triad.
Furthermore, the American Security Project has recently hosted various events regarding the defense budget:

Event Recap: Defense Budget in 2014: A Conversation with Russell Rumbaugh
Yesterday, Defense One released an article detailing how at a Nuclear Deterrence Summit last week full of advocates that support modernizing the nuclear triad, the notion of developing new intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) was dismissed. Why so, you might ask? Well, according to the current budget environment, this is just not viable.
