EUROfusion: European Joint Fusion Programme Launched
On October 9th a consortium of all national fusion research institutes in the European Union, plus Switzerland, launched a joint programme on fusion energy in Horizon 2020. EUROfusion will ensure significant progress along the path towards the realization of fusion energy. This consortium represents a closer integration of previous European Consortium for the Development of Fusion Energy and has a 5-year programme with a budget of 850 million euros. EUROfusion will focus on preparing for ITER experiments and developing concepts for a fusion power demonstration plant DEMO.
Fusion energy offers carbon-free clean energy and is an ideal power source in terms of security and the environment. American Security Project’s Fusion White Paper outlines a plan on how to accelerate the development of fusion power in the United States.
