Netanyahu and the Israeli Intelligence Split on the Iran Sanctions Bill
On January 21, an article by Bloomberg reported that Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency, has split with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the new Iran sanctions bill. Israeli intelligence officials argue that passing of the bill would lead to a collapse of the current nuclear talks between P5+1 and Iran.
According to the article:
…an unnamed Israeli intelligence official had said the new sanctions bill would be “like throwing a grenade into the process”…
Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office later clarified the situation, stating that:
…“[the chairman of Mossad] used this term [grenade] to describe the possibility of creating a temporary breakdown in the talks, at the end of which the negotiations will be restarted under better conditions…The Mossad chairman explicitly pointed out that the agreement that is being reached with Iran is bad, and may lead to a regional arms race”…
