ASP Commends the Appointment of Board Member Lester Lyles to Vice Chairmanship of Defense Science Board
Washington, D.C. – Today, the American Security Project (ASP) commended the appointment of ASP Board Member General Lester Lyles, USAF (Ret.) to be Vice Chairman of the Defense Science Board, a body charged with advising the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Undersecretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology and Logistics) on scientific, technical, manufacturing, and other issues of importance to the Department. In response to the appointment, ASP President Vice Admiral Lee Gunn, USN (Ret.) released the following statement:
“We congratulate General Lyles on his appointment as Vice Chairman of the Defense Science Board. As a result of his long and distinguished career, General Lyles has developed a keen understanding of the challenges faced by our military and the nature of our changing defense needs. His broad perspective and intimate knowledge of defense matters benefit from his having most recently served as Commander of the Air Force Material Command, and prior to that, as Air Force Vice Chief of Staff and Chief Technology Officer, and Director of the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization at the Department of Defense. From the threat of ballistic missiles to the intersection of science, technology, and industry, General Lyles understands the sometimes competing priorities of the Department of Defense. His expertise and his leadership will make a substantial and lasting contribution to the Defense Science Board. We look forward to continuing our work with General Lyles on these and other important issues related to the security of our nation.”
