Speakers:
Christine Todd Whitman is the President of The Whitman Strategy Group (WSG), a consulting firm that specializes in energy and environmental issues. WSG offers a comprehensive set of solutions to problems facing businesses, organizations, and governments; they have been at the forefront of helping leading companies find innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
She is also co-chair of the Republican Leadership Council (RLC), which she founded with Senator John Danforth. The RLC’s mission is to support fiscally conservative, socially tolerant candidates and to reclaim the word Republican. She is the author of a New York Times best seller called “It’s My Party Too”, which was published in January of 2005 and released in paperback in March 2006.
Governor Whitman served in the cabinet of President George W. Bush as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency from January of 2001 until June of 2003. She was the 50th Governor of the State of New Jersey, serving as its first woman governor from 1994 until 2001.
As Governor, Christie Whitman earned praise from both Republicans and Democrats for her commitment to preserve a record amount of New Jersey land as permanent green space. She was also recognized by the Natural Resources Defense Council as having instituted the most comprehensive beach monitoring system in the nation. As EPA Administrator, she promoted common-sense environmental improvements such as watershed-based water protection policies. She championed regulations requiring non-road diesel engines to reduce sulfur emissions by more than 95 percent. Under her tenure, the Agency established the first federal program to promote redevelopment and reuse of “brownfields”, that is, previously contaminated industrial sites.
Governor Whitman serves on a number of non-profit organizations including the Board of Trustees’ Executive Committee of the Eisenhower Fellowships as well as Chair of their Executive Committee, and the Board of Directors of the Council on Foreign Relations. She was also the Co-Chair for the Council on Foreign Relations’ Task Force, More Than Humanitarianism: A Strategic U.S. Approach Toward Africa, as well as the Aspen Health Stewardship Project, which was released in February of 2008. She co-chairs Clean and Safe Energy (CASE) with Dr. Patrick Moore and is a member of the board of directors of the American Security Project.
Governor Whitman also serves on the Board of Directors of S.C. Johnson and Son, Inc., Texas Instruments Inc., and United Technologies Corporation. She currently serves as an advisor to the Aspen Rodel Fellowship program.
Prior to becoming Governor, she was the President of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and served on the Somerset County board of Chosen Freeholders.
Governor Whitman holds a BA from Wheaton College in Norton, MA, and is married to John R. Whitman. They have two children and three grandchildren.
Inga Beale joined Lloyd’s as the Chief Executive Officer in January 2014.
Prior to Lloyd’s, Inga was the Group Chief Executive Officer at Canopius, a prominent Lloyd’s managing agent, from 2012 – 2013.
Inga joined Zurich Insurance Group in 2008 as a member of the Group Management Board in Zurich with responsibility for Mergers & Acquisitions, Organisational Transformation and Internal Consulting, before becoming Global Chief Underwriting Officer in 2009.
In 2006, Inga was appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of Converium in Switzerland (now part of the SCOR Group) after 14 years at GE Insurance Solutions. Inga held various underwriting management roles at GE and gaining experience across London, the US, and France, before becoming President of GE Frankona and Head of Continental Europe, Middle East and Africa for GE Insurance Solutions based in Germany.
Inga began her career at the Prudential Assurance Company in London in 1982 and trained as an international treaty reinsurance underwriter.
Inga is also an external Board member to the Government’s Financial Services Trade and Investment Board and in July 2016 joined the Board of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
Kathleen Hamm provides advice and counsel to the Treasury Deputy Secretary on cybersecurity and related governance, regulatory, compliance, and risk management issues facing the financial services sector. She assists the Deputy Secretary in coordinating Treasury’s strategic policy initiatives around cybersecurity for the financial services sector domestically and internationally through a cybersecurity expert group impaneled by the G-7 finance ministers and central bank governors. Ms. Hamm also leads Treasury’s cybersecurity working group, which helps develop, coordinate, and facilitate the implementation of the department’s cybersecurity strategies and initiatives.
Prior to joining the Treasury, Ms. Hamm led Promontory Financial Group’s securities practice group, providing advice to global and domestic financial service providers on complex corporate governance, regulatory, compliance, risk management, and enforcement issues. Her clients included broker-dealers, investment advisers, exchanges, banks, insurance companies, credit rating agencies, public companies, and domestic and international financial regulators.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Hamm was the chief regulatory and compliance officer for a national securities exchange that traded security futures and was jointly regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. There, she successfully designed, implemented, and managed all aspects of regulatory, compliance, and corporate policies and programs for the exchange. She also spent almost a decade with the SEC in its Division of Enforcement where, as an assistant director, she managed and coordinated all aspects of three enforcement branches that investigated potential violations of the federal securities laws.
Ms. Hamm served on the Board of the National Stock Exchange, where she was a member of the Executive Committee and chair of the Regulatory Oversight Committee. She has been an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center, teaching Corporate Controls, Compliance, and Governance. Currently, she serves as a member of the Duke University School of Law Board of Visitors and the chair of its Nominating Committee.
Ms. Hamm graduated from the University of Buffalo, SUNY, with a BS, summa cum laude, majoring in Business Administration and concentrating in the Registered Accounting Program; she holds her JD, with honors, from the Duke University School of Law and earned her LLM in Securities Regulation, with distinction, from the Georgetown University Law Center, graduating first in her class.
Dante Disparte is the founder and CEO of Risk Cooperative, a strategy, risk and capital management firm focusing on mid-market opportunities, market expansion and equity investments on a global scale. He is the co-author of the forthcoming book “Global Risk Agility and Decision Making” (Macmillan, Q2/2016).
Prior to forming Risk Cooperative, Mr. Disparte served as the Managing Director of Clements Worldwide, a leading insurance brokerage with customers in more 170 countries. Mr. Disparte is a specialist in strategy and risk reduction through the design and delivery of comprehensive risk solutions of worldwide scope. He is credited with designing the world’s first card-based life insurance program for the United Nations, a plan that has placed more than a half billion USD of risk with the markets in more than 150 countries. This innovation was heralded as one of the top product innovations of 2011 by the MENA Insurance Review. Mr. Disparte serves as the Chairman of the board of the Harvard Business School Club of Washington, D.C., and on Harvard Business School’s global alumni board. He is a founding member of the Business Council for American Security and an advisory member with the American Security Project.
He was formerly the Managing Director of Land Rover’s operations in 32 Sub Saharan African markets and held numerous general management roles in Denmark, where he developed applied skills in social entrepreneurship. Mr. Disparte is credited with developing a humanitarian fleet management solution that is proven to reduce the economic, environmental and social impact of humanitarian operations. This body of work is profiled in a business case published by INSEAD’s Social Innovation Centre. He served on the board of directors of Kjaer Group A/S, one of the top 10 workplaces in Europe and the top workplace in Denmark for 4 years and currently serves on the board of Communities in Schools Nation’s Capital, where he chairs the fund development committee. He is conversant in 6 languages and has published numerous articles on the subject of risk, strategy and business effectiveness. A graduate of Harvard Business School’s Program for Leadership Development, Mr. Disparte holds a degree in International and Intercultural Studies from Goucher College and a MSc. in risk management from NYU’s Stern School of Business.
