The Cipher Brief quotes ASP on Cuba Engagement
On Friday, June 16th, the Cipher Brief published an article quoting the American Security Project’s BGen. Stephen A. Cheney (ret.), BG Dave McGinnis (ret.), and Maggie Feldman-Piltch on the President’s Friday announcement in Miami. President Trump announced that the United States would be ending the Obama-era deal which opened diplomatic relations with Cuba.
Feldman-Piltch noted that the changes seemed “cosmetic in nature.” BGen. Cheney and BG McGinnis expressed concern about the loss of intelligence and coast guard cooperation and the possibility of future Cuban relations with China and Russia, respectively.
BGen. Stephen Cheney and BG Dave McGinnis both signed an ASP-organized letter urging the continuation of US-Cuba engagement with the new administration.
BGen. Cheney, BG McGinnis, and Feldman-Piltch were all part of the delegation from the American Security Project which traveled to Havana in March 2017.
