WASHINGTON, D.C., 27 September 2010 – The American Security Project (ASP) today announced the appointment of Dr. Janne Nolan as the Director of Nuclear Security.

Dr. Jim Ludes, the Executive Director of ASP said: “In the years I’ve known Dr. Nolan, she has distinguished herself with her intelligence on key issues, her Washington savvy, and her genuine encouragement for people still making a name for themselves in this field. We’re thrilled she’s bringing those skills and qualities to ASP.

Dr. Ludes went on to say: “Janne is taking on ASP’s latest initiative – tackling the range of nuclear security issues from arms control to proliferation. There are few issues as critical and as poorly understood on the nation’s agenda. Janne is uniquely qualified to bridge those gaps and we look forward to working with her.”

Dr. Janne Nolan said: “Addressing the threat of nuclear proliferation, increasing our security and addressing the role nuclear weapons have in the modern world are the most serious issues that face our nation in the second decade of the twenty-first century.”

Dr. Nolan continued: “We must face these threats with policies and modern approaches for today, and not those of the past. We need to build a unified consensus in America that understands the complex issues, and further build alliances across political parties. ASP is helping to promote honest public dialogue surrounding America’s national security, which also helps to address issues of global security at large.”
