Adjunct Senior Fellow Fadi Elsalameen on MSNBC
On Monday, June 24th, ASP Adjunct Senior Fellow Fadi Elsalameen appeared on MSNBC to discuss the Trump administration’s economic component of the Middle East peace plan with Ali Velshi.
The decade long plan calls for $50 billion of investment in the region. $27.8 billion would be allocated to Gaza and the West Bank with the rest going to Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon – three states that have taken on a large number of Palestinian refugees over the years. The plan also calls for $5 billion to build a transportation network between Gaza and the West Bank, $1 billion in Palestinian tourism, and 179 infrastructure projects.
Elsalameen said that he is “somewhat encouraged” by the economic component but believes that it is not enough and a “clear political component” must be put forward. Elsalameen also discussed the issues of corruption, money allocation, and what it means for an independent Palestinian state.
