According to the International Energy Agency, demand for hydrogen has grown threefold since 1975 and has recently gained even more popularity as a potential source of clean energy. Green hydrogen was a feature of several pledges during COP26 and the UN has launched the Green Hydrogen Catapult, and the U.S. Department of Energy has launched both the Hydrogen Shot and up to $8 billion to establish up to 10 Regional Clean Hydrogen hubs. But with an extremely high cost and high energy consumption for production, what role can hydrogen play in the clean energy transition?
