American Security Project Names Brigadier General Stephen A. Cheney, USMC (Ret.) President Emeritus

Washington, D.C., March 15, 2022 – The American Security Project (ASP) is honored to name Brigadier General Stephen A. Cheney, USMC (Ret.), President Emeritus.

Brigadier General Cheney has been involved with the American Security Project since its creation and has made numerous and significant contributions to ASP’s work. Cheney has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2006, served as ASP’s Chief Executive Officer from 2011 until 2019, and as President from 2019 until 2022. This appointment serves to recognize his dedication and commitment to the organization—the title and the continued work General Cheney is willing to do in support of ASP and his extraordinary accomplishments.

Upon naming Brigadier General Cheney as President Emeritus, Governor Christine Todd Whitman, chairperson of the American Security Project Board of Directors, said: “ASP simply would not exist without Steve’s dedication, commitment, and vision. Naming him President Emeritus is a small token of our respect and a recognition of Steve’s status as an elder stateman within our ranks.”

ASP President, Lieutenant General Norman Seip, USAF (Ret.), stated: “Steve left incredibly large shoes to fill when he stepped down as President of ASP earlier this year and passed me the baton. In naming him President Emeritus, we not only honor his accomplishments but also recognize the continued work Steve is willing to do in support of ASP. I am thrilled to be able to turn to my immediate predecessor and think his continued dedication to ASP merits this title and the prestige associated with Emeritus status.”

Since 2005, ASP has been at the forefront of national security research and analysis. ASP works to forge a bipartisan consensus on a national security strategy that will restore America’s leadership across the globe.

The American Security Project (ASP) is a nonpartisan organization created to educate the American public and the world about the changing nature of national security in the 21st Century. ##############
