ASP Board Member Admiral William Fallon on NPR
On Friday, June 14th, Admiral William Fallon, ASP Board Member and former head of the U.S. Central Command, appeared on NPR in conversation with Rachel Martin. Admiral Fallon gave input into the current tensions with Iran, commenting on the recent attacks on two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. He assessed evidence that Iran was responsible for the attacks:
“ It’s very convincing to me… I’ve seen some speculation that this may be some kind of an independent action. I doubt that sincerely. I think this was something that was premeditated. And it’s an escalatory step in a road to I’m not sure where but certainly not headed anywhere in the right direction.”
In response to speculation about military escalation, Admiral Fallon offered insight and urged caution:
“I don’t think it’s a tipping point. But it’s dangerous because when you start using things that explode and blow up, there is always the danger of a miscalculation – some kind of a mistake. And, again, when things start flying through the air, it’s not good. So this is not a good trend and need to be very, very careful and take some serious action to try to reverse it.”
