ASP Chairman Sen. Gary Hart Honors Gen. Lester Lyles for His Election to the National Academy of Engineering

WASHINGTON, D.C., 10 February 2011 – Chairman of the American Security Project (ASP), and former Senator, Gary Hart today issued a statement congratulating fellow ASP board member Gen. Lester Lyles, USAF (Ret.), for his election to the National Academy of Engineering — “among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer,”  according to a National Academy of Sciences press statement.

Sen. Gary Hart said:

General Lyles has served the United States in numerous capacities, and he has done so, always, with great distinction.  His election to the National Academy of Engineering is a well deserved affirmation of his vision and genuine leadership in technology and aerospace.  ASP salutes Gen. Lyles for his contributions and his well deserved honor.”

Recently elected into the National Academy of Engineering for his “leadership in advancing air and space technology and for national service in space exploration,” Air Force General Lester L. Lyles (Ret.) currently serves as independent aerospace consultant for The Lyles Group in Vienna, Va. Lyles retired from the United State Air Force after a distinguished 35 year career, most recently as Commander, Air Force Material Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Prior to that he served as Air Force Vice Chief of Staff and Chief Technology Officer, and Director of the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization at the Department of Defense. He is a senior executive with over 26 years experience running large, high-technology organizations involved in aeronautical and astronautical research, development, acquisition and logistics. Gen. Lyles serves on the Board of Directors of several defense technology and logistics solutions companies, including General Dynamics Corporation and MTC Technologies, Inc. He was a 2004 Presidential Appointee to the President’s Commission on Implementation of United States Space Exploration Policy.
