ASP Congratulates Board Member and former Senator Chuck Hagel on His Appointment as Co-Chair of the Intelligence Advisory Board
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, DC – Today, the American Security Project congratulated ASP board member and former Senator Chuck Hagel on his appointment as co-chair of President Barack Obama’s Intelligence Advisory Board. The job of the board is to provide President Obama with an independent source of advice about the effectiveness of the intelligence community. Former US Senator and Oklahoma University President David Boren will serve as co-chair with Senator Hagel. In response, ASP Chairman of the board and former Senator Gary Hart issued the following statement:
“On behalf of the entire board of ASP, we congratulate Senator Hagel and commend the President for appointing the Senator to this important position. Senator Hagel has a long and distinguished record on intelligence and foreign policy issues – as a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, a former member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and a decorated Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He understands the use of intelligence, the issues facing our country, and the need for a balanced approach to the complex challenges of the 21st century. The President could not have chosen a more experienced, pragmatic, and bi-partisan leader. We look forward to continuing to work with Senator Hagel as he continues his leadership and his service to the country we love.”
The American Security Project (ASP) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy research and education initiative dedicated to fostering knowledge and understanding of a range of national security and foreign policy issues. It is organized around the belief that honest public discussion of national security requires an informed citizenry—one that understands the dangers and opportunities of the twenty-first century and the spectrum of available responses. ASP was formed to help Americans—from opinion leaders to the general public—understand how national security issues relate directly to them, and to explain challenges and threats in a way that spurs constructive action.
