ASP in the News: Senior Fellow David Haines in National Defense Magazine
ASP Senior Fellow for Climate Security David Haines was recently quoted in National Defense Magazine’s Electric Vehicles for Military Still a Pipedream, an article discussing military investments into the electrification of vehicles and the challenges associated with widespread adoption of such technology. Haines noted that an emphasis on the diversification of fuel sources is crucial towards allowing for battlefield flexibility. According to Haines,
“If you’ve got technology that can … [offer the capability to] utilize fuel sources in a contingency situation where you’re not sure what you’re going to get, then you should pursue that.”
Haines continued by emphasizing that if it makes sense for a commander to use a different fuel source, then they should be able to. He concluded by stating that,
“Diversification of fuel sources is something that is … a tactical consideration. If I’m going to a place which I’m not familiar [with], I want to be able to utilize whatever I can find on the ground.”
