ASP’s Andrew Holland quoted in AOL Energy

Senior Fellow Andrew Holland was recently quoted in an article by AOL Energy concerning the presidential candidates and their stances on fossil fuels.

When asked whether Obama or the market deserved the credit for the United States’ rise to the world’s largest producer of natural gas, for the recent expansions of American oil and gas supply, and for American oil imports being their lowest since 1995, Holland noted:

He certainly deserves credit for not having it run off the rails. There are a lot of things that a politician can do to screw these things up.

In regards to accusations that Obama’s policies exacerbated the coal industry’s decline, Holland said:

It’s the old Herbert Hoover line – the President gets blamed for the rain,” Holland said. “This reputation he has of an anti-coal guy is a little unfair. Coal has been a victim of a significant free market turn away from it. It is no longer cost effective for a utility to build a new coal plant.
