Last week, ASP launched a major publication, the “Climate Security Report.” Congressional Quarterly (CQ) discussed the report in an article, quoting ASP Senior Fellow Andrew Holland. The article looks at the potential for legislation addressing climate change adaptation in the wake of the destruction left by Hurricane Sandy.  From the article (subscription only):

Andrew Holland, a senior fellow at the American Security Project, said it is appropriate for the federal government to establish some sort of central planning regime.

“You don’t want to have a one-size-fits-all, D.C.-focused approach, but at the same time, it is important for the federal government to lead on this,” he said.

Holland said it is important for policymakers to make sure that legislation, like the annual authorizations for military and intelligence activities, do not impede the Pentagon’s ability to plan for security threats posed by climate change.
