Climate Security Intern
Expertise: Carbon Pricing, Climate Policy, AI and Machine Learning, Middle Eastern Affairs
Sam Humphries is a recent graduate of the United States Military Academy where he studied Mathematical Sciences and Terrorism Studies. Sam is interested in the intersection between analytics and policy and spent his time as an undergraduate researching revenue options for carbon pricing proposals and developing an object detection algorithm for US Special Operations Command. During his undergraduate experience, Sam gained practical experience in the policy world as an intern at the National Security Council’s Middle East Directorate and while serving as a senior staff member for the Student Council on United States Affairs. At ASP, Sam hopes to explore the effects emerging technology can have on climate security and the threat climate change poses to the nation’s critical energy infrastructure.
Next year, Sam will pursue a graduate degree in Operations Research at MIT before serving as an Infantry Officer in the United States Army.
