BGen Stephen Cheney Featured on NPR Morning Edition
Brigadier General Stephen Cheney was featured discussing Arctic security issues on NPR’s Morning Edition, as Secretary of State Kerry travels in the Norwegian Arctic. Discussing the U.S.’s two-year chairmanship of the Arctic Council, Cheney was asked about his opinion on the Arctic Council and it’s lack of agenda in arctic security.
Cheney states:
“I’ve now been convinced bringing the security aspect into [the Arctic Council] would not be a good thing. [The Arctic Council] fear if you brought it into their agenda, it would dilute not only their agenda, but countries would leave and would not participate.”
