Brigadier General Stephen A. Cheney interviewed on Energy Executive Order
Brigadier General Stephen A. Cheney, USMC (Ret.) CEO of the American Security Project talked about the new executive order on energy signed on Tuesday in an exclusive interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s World TV program.
In the interview BGen. Cheney outlines what the new order on “Energy Independence” actually means for energy security. He explains that the order, which puts an end to the ban on federal coal leasing, will not bring coal back primarily due to cheaper and cleaner natural gas and the increasing utilization of renewables.
“The war on coal has been over for a while. We are becoming much more energy independent without coal”, declared BGen Cheney
“The forces of the economy are gonna drive this forward and coal will not play a part”, he continued.
On the implications for the Clean Power Plan, B.Gen Cheney asserted any rollbacks as a “huge mistake” going on to predict more action by state and local governments on climate change.
The interview closed with a discussion on the link between climate change and global security.
“We understand, on the military side of the house, that we have to plan for the worst case scenario”, said BGen Cheney
