Cunningham’s LNG Exports Report Mentioned in Politico
ASP Policy Analyst Nick Cunningham’s new report entitled “The Geopolitical Implications of U.S. Natural Gas Exports” was mentioned in Politico’s Morning Energy on March 5. Cunningham’s report looks at rising natural gas production in the U.S., and examines the geopolitical benefits of removing restrictions on Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) exports to Europe and Asia. Ultimately, this will help improve the energy security of America’s closest allies. From the Politico article:
The U.S.’s newly tapped reserves of natural gas should be exported, particularly to Asia and Europe, to “provide more liquidity to the global LNG market, provide alternative sources of energy for our allies, and accelerate the trend away from the oil-linked pricing system in Asia and Europe,” Nick Cunningham of the American Security Project writes in a new paper today. “LNG export capacity will undermine the ability of major energy suppliers to use energy as a political weapon.”
