North Korea represents a difficult problem for the United States and our allies. This year has shown how quickly the region can be thrown into turmoil as North Korea goes through a leadership transition. North Korea has reinvigorated its nuclear and missile programs and learning about the precise outline of their efforts is a difficult task. Join us for a lunchtime discussion with Visiting Scholar and former State Department official Joel Wit as he describes current North Korean nuclear, missile, and space programs using imagery slides. Mr. Wit will give his views on the policy options for dealing with this difficult and dangerous nation.

About the Speakers
Visiting Scholar Joel Wit:
US-Korea Institute, Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies
A former State Department official for 15 years, Joel Wit worked extensively on nuclear arms control, non-proliferation, and North Korea issues. Since leaving government in 2002, Wit has been a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and is now affiliated with the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and Columbia University. He co-authored with Robert Gallucci and Dan Poneman the book Going Critical: The First North Korea Nuclear Crisis, published by Brookings Institute Press in 2004.
Terri S. Lodge:
Terri Lodge is the Director for Nuclear Security at the American Security Project. Ms. Lodge served as the Senior Congressional Advisor for Arms Control and Nonproliferation at the State Department for many years, specializing in treaty ratification, nominations, and nonproliferation legislation. Ms. Lodge was the Director for Government Affairs at the Ploughshares Fund. She has worked for over twenty years in the arms control and nonproliferation field.
