On Thursday, Senator John Warner, Vice Admiral Lee Gunn, and Phyllis Cuttano with the Pew Research Project appeared on Today’s THV in Arkansas to talk about climate change’s impact on our national security. Senator Warner stated that energy security and national security are impacted by the uncertainties of climate change. He stressed that we have to learn how to conserve energy at home and become less reliant on overseas energy supplies because if we do, the less our men and women in uniform will have to work in areas that supply much of our energy. Admiral Lee Gunn added that climate change aggravates existing tensions in areas where governments have a difficult time managing their affairs and providing for their people. He added that aggravated conditions make it easier for Al Qaeda to recruit terrorists because they offer a positive alternative to what governments aren’t doing to alleviate conditions.
