ITER is the internationally-backed fusion reactor currently under construction in the South of France. Supported by seven nations – the U.S., Russia, China, India, Korea, Japan and the European Union – ITER hopes to demonstrate net energy gain is possible. It should be up and running by 2020.

The Joint European Torus (JET) facility is located in the UK and supports the ITER project. The Engineer, a British publication, hosted an online Q&A session with fusion scientists on October 25. Questions will be answered by fusion teams from both the JET facility and the ITER project and printed next week.
