ASP’s Andrew Holland and Dr. David W. Titley, Rear Admiral USN (Ret.) featured in POLITICO
ASP Director of Studies, Andrew Holland, and Consensus Member, Dr. David W. Titley, Rear Admiral USN (Ret.), were featured in a POLITICO article titled Why the GOP Is Trying to Stop the Pentagon’s Climate Plan.
Article author Danny Vinik discusses the ‘political toxicity’ of climate change, describing how the House Republicans voted last week to block funding for a plan that would designate top Department of Defense officials to determine how climate change will affect DOD operations and training. “It’s actually crazy to me, and it should be crazy to anyone in the military, that Congress is telling them not to do this,” said Andrew.
The funding would have been allocated by Defense Directive 4715.12. Experts viewed the directive as a significant move towards integrating a DOD-wide approach to climate change adaptation strategies. “While this thing looks pretty innocuous, it has the potential to be pretty important,” said Admiral Titley.
