Leading National Security Experts Warning: America Is In Danger Of Losing Its Competitive Edge
WASHINGTON D.C., 20 January 2012 – Today, national security experts and members of the Board of Directors of the American Security Project released an open letter warning that America is in danger of losing its competitive edge and calling for action to increase research and development investments.
Brigadier General Stephen A. Cheney USMC (Ret.), CEO of the American Security Project said:
“Research and development is the life blood for future growth in the economy, and sustained American world leadership – which ensures our national security. Without significant R&D we are in danger of losing our competitive edge, and in so doing endangering our national security.”
Norman R. Augustine, leading American Industrialist and Board Member of ASP said:
“As every business leader knows, prosperity tomorrow requires investment today. This is true whether the economy is in a period of boom or bust. The United States will not simply “grow” its way out of economic malaise. We need a rebirth of innovation: new products, new ways of doing things, new scientific achievements.”
He went on to say:
“America can do this. We need a renewed partnership and consensus that R&D for the long-term is the way forward.”
