NIF Segment on CBS “Sunday Morning”
CBS News “Sunday Morning” did a feature on the National Ignition Facility (NIF), a laser fusion laboratory that is part of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). NIF recently achieved a milestone in fusion, delivering a record amount of energy to a fuel target. Using 192 lasers, NIF delivered 500 terrawatts of energy, more power than is used in the entire United States at any moment in time. NIF is working towards achieving “ignition,” getting a self-sustaining burn that generates enormous amounts of energy, later this year. Watch the full video below.
