Pew Releases New Report
Yesterday, the Pew Project on National Security, Energy and Climate released its “Reenergizing America’s Defense” report. It can be accessed here.
In its report, Pew presents an in-depth picture of the dangers posed to the Department of Defense, and our troops in particular, by American dependence on liquid fuel and climate change. The authors point out that national security officials and experts have long made this argument, highlighting the harmful effects that dependence and events tied to climate change have had and will continue to have on the American military, our diplomacy efforts and our economy.
“Reenergizing America’s Defense” explores DoD’s efforts to reduce its own dependence, particularly important given that DoD makes up 80 percent of the government’s energy consumption. Always innovative, DoD, Pew commends, is taking the necessary steps to move away from operation-inhibiting and climate-damaging liquid fuels by researching and developing alternative, renewable sources of energy for its needs.
