Platts – US House budget for DOE would boost fossil energy, cuts renewables R&D

The US House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee on Tuesday released its draft fiscal 2013 budget for the US Department of Energy, giving the agency $26.3 billion, a cut of $358 million below the current year’s level and $1.8 billion below President Barack Obama’s request.
Reflecting differences in priorities between the Obama administration and the Republican majority in the House, the committee’s draft budget significantly boosts DOE’s funding for fossil energy research and denies the president’s request for an increase in energy efficiency and renewable energy funding.
