The Consensus for American Security hosted a press conference call on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 10:30AM with Amb. Linton Brooks and Lt. Gen. Dirk Jameson who discussed the latest developments on the ratification process for the New START treaty.

Amb. Brooks and Lt. Gen. Jameson spoke to the increased risks to the modernization program, the U.S.-Russian strategic relationship, and U.S. national security due to the delays in New START ratification.

Amb. Brooks served as under secretary of energy for nuclear security and as administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) from 2003 to 2007. His extensive government experience includes service as assistant director of the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency and as chief U.S. negotiator for the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (where he earned the title of ambassador).

Lt. Gen. Jameson was formerly responsible for all U.S. Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles, during his military service.  He served as Deputy Commander in Chief and Chief of Staff of U.S. Strategic Command before retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1996. Gen. Jameson had numerous other nuclear related assignments including Director of Command Control, Strategic Air Command, 4th Air Division Commander and Commander of the 90th Strategic Missile Wing.
