Six Yemeni detainees at Guantanamo Bay to be repatriated – washingtonpost.com

Rep. Frank R. Wolf (R-Va.), a critic of the administration policy on Guantanamo, said Yemeni detainees pose a particular risk because of the instability of their home country.

“Stop. These men are dangerous,” Wolf said when asked about the transfer. “I believe they will be involved in terrorism that will cost American lives.”

Look in 1945, we released German POWs, some of them hardened Nazi bastards.  You just can’t hold people forever just because they are members of a foul organization.  If they have committed criminal acts that would warrant a life sentence, then try them, convict them, lock ’em up and throw away the key.  But we just can’t hold random AQ members indefinitely.

I mean, this is one of those things that seems like there are two sides of the issue at the time, but I guarantee you in 20 years, we’ll all be wondering how in the world anyone thought it was a good idea to just seize people based on their (suspected) membership in a group and lock them up indefinitely.

Locking up people of Japanese descent also seemed like a good idea in 1941.
