Why the U.S. Can Not Ignore Pakistan
As U.S. troops leave Afghanistan, many will see an opportunity to end engagement with Pakistan, a frequently frustrating ally. However complicated the U.S.-Pakistan relationship may be, walking away from Pakistan would be a strategic mistake.
This Perspective Paper examines the many nuclear risks associated with Pakistan, a nuclear weapons state outside the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, and proposes steps for U.S.-Pakistan cooperation to address mutual nuclear threats.
